The impact of our grants

The VIF Program supports 17 youth initiatives led by non-profit organizations across Canada, with total funding of $835,000. Selected from 118 applications from all provinces and territories across Canada, these initiatives will enable young people aged 14 to 30 to come together, exchange ideas, encourage each other and get involved in French across the country.

Noir et Fier 2026 – Towards a new generation

Project description:

From 1 to 29 February 2026, Théâtre Cercle Molière will celebrate Black History Month in style with a special edition of Noir et Fier, which is also part of its 100th anniversary celebrations. Throughout the month, more than 1,500 young people aged 14 to 30 will be invited to participate in a series of artistic, educational and festive activities: a youth conference, an evening of festivities, a podcast, school visits and a play. The event aims to strengthen young people’s sense of belonging, value their voices and highlight the richness and diversity of Manitoba’s Francophone community.

CINE ACADEMY TOUR

Project description:

CINE ACADEMY TOUR is a travelling project offering creative workshops on the theme of cinema for French-language/immersion schools and community centres. It will run from September 2025 to the end of February 2026. The programme is aimed at young French speakers aged 14 to 30, as well as English speakers learning French. The aim is to strengthen the use of French through artistic creation, using an inclusive, educational and creative approach. Led by a professional film-maker, the workshops introduce participants to film analysis, screenwriting, filming and editing. Each group leaves with a mini-film that they have imagined, filmed, performed in and edited. Sixty workshops are planned in ten cities. CINE ACADEMY TOUR explores the world of cinema in a fun, interactive and participatory way with an educational focus. The themes are a gateway to boundless imagination and creativity. Silence… Camera… Roll… Action… Cut!

Bushwak 2025 + FJCF Là pour ÇA Conference

Project description:

Bushwak is a wilderness summer camp for French-speaking young adults (aged 18 to 30) in Manitoba. From 28 August to 1 September, 20 to 25 participants will enjoy a 100% French-language immersion experience, with workshops, challenges, concerts and more. The camp aims to strengthen outdoor skills, interpersonal skills and self-confidence. Thanks to the national component, our board members will also be able to benefit from training offered by the FJCF as part of the pan-Canadian Là pour ÇA conference. Scheduled for February 2026, this conference will bring together more than 70 young people from across the country for workshops, conferences and exchanges, promoting their civic engagement and their role in youth governance.

Nightwalks with Teenagers

Project description:

Nightwalks with Teenagers will be a public performance, a night-time walk and an invitation to intergenerational dialogue. It will create an experimental social space that aims to give young people’s voices equal weight to those of adults. In September and October 2025, 25 teenage performers, supported by the renowned company Mammalian Diving Reflex, will create six social performances in the form of walks through Vancouver, during which they will invite 500 members of the general public to see the city from their perspective.

With the goal of developing the network’s expertise and strengthening governance, the Fédération de la jeunesse canadienne-française (FJCF) wishes to organise the Là pour ça Congress in Ottawa in the winter of 2026. a dynamic pan-Canadian gathering designed BY and FOR young people aged 14 to 25, to enable them to exchange ideas, develop their skills, get to know each other better and discover the richness of the national youth network in all its diversity, in French!

In order to meet the specific needs of young people from official language minority communities in Canada and French-speaking young people whose mother tongue is not French, who wish to take an active part in their respective communities, the Là pour ÇA Congress will offer workshops, conferences and exchange activities that will equip young people with the tools they need for social involvement and active engagement in civic participation.

Promoting the CJFCB’s cultural and artistic programming

Project description:

The project offers in-person cultural and artistic programming for young Francophones in British Columbia, centred around two events: Crescendo, a performing arts show, and the Ligue d’improvisation franco-colombienne (LIFC). These events aim to promote artistic expression, strengthen linguistic confidence and develop a sense of belonging to the Francophone community among French-speaking youth aged 14 to 18 in British Columbia. Crescendo allows young people to perform in front of an audience after a process of auditions, mentoring and training. The LIFC mobilises approximately 65 young people through local training sessions and a provincial tournament as part of the Festival du Bois. These gatherings offer young Francophones in minority communities unique opportunities to express themselves in French, forge lasting bonds and identify with Francophone artistic role models.

Teen Programming 2025-2026

Project description:

The 2025-2026 Teen Programming project involves the development of a brand new project by and for teenagers in Beauport in the autumn of 2025, the development of a brand new creative workshop aimed primarily at this age group, centred around digital mapping and stop-motion technologies, as well as the addition of a 100% teen component to two tours of our autumn/winter programme. These two projects are a long tour of French-speaking communities in the Atlantic provinces (September to November 2025) and a presentation project at the Matane-Baie-Comeau river station (December 2025-January 2026). Overall, the project in Beauport and the teen components of our projects in the Atlantic provinces, Matane and Baie-Comeau should enable us to reach approximately 800 young people aged 14 to 18.

Create and get involved: towards a Francophone theatre that reflects young people

From 15 September 2025 to 1 March 2026, Théâtre Action will implement a provincial project aimed at strengthening the expression and engagement of young Francophones in Ontario through theatre. Artistic support will be offered to approximately 20 troupes from Francophone secondary schools in several regions of the province. In total, nearly 300 to 350 young people aged 14 to 18 will be supported in the development and presentation of an original theatrical production in French. At the same time, a youth advisory committee will be set up. It will bring together young people aged 16 to 30 from various regions. This committee will be tasked with reflecting on issues affecting Francophone youth, proposing courses of action and participating in the evaluation of Théâtre Action’s youth projects. The project aims to strengthen linguistic confidence, civic engagement and a sense of belonging to Ontario’s Francophone community.

Taking care of our ecosystems and rethinking our consumption: climate literacy for secondary school students in British Columbia (for French schools and French immersion schools)

Project description:

EcoNova Educations workshops raise awareness of the importance of the environment among the citizens and professionals of tomorrow. For students in grades 9 to 12, we offer year-round thematic programmes in French on ecosystems and rethinking consumption. Each programme includes a series of progressive workshops (2 to 3) and a teacher’s kit with selected resources. Participating students also attend a screening of a French film on the theme and launch school projects. Thanks to the VIF Programme, we plan to offer these programmes in person to 20 classes in French and French immersion schools across British Columbia during the 2025-2026 school year (September 2025 to February 2026). In total, more than 1,500 students (aged 14-18) could participate. Our initiative will offer multiple opportunities for young Canadian residents, Francophones and Francophiles aged 14 to 18 to come together, exchange ideas, encourage each other and engage in French around ecological projects, accompanied by the EcoNova team and their teachers.

The forest in motion: trails, knowledge and flavours in the great outdoors

Project description:

Les Gailurons Outdoor Centre is proposing an engaging project that will involve more than 160 young people aged 14 to 17 in the design, construction and facilitation of a new network of mountain bike trails incorporating educational and environmental elements. The project will include planting a food forest, developing nature rest areas, and offering practical workshops on forest survival and wild harvesting. All activities will be conducted in French and will put young people at the heart of the action, giving them concrete roles throughout the project. The project aims to strengthen their sense of belonging, stimulate their civic participation and offer them opportunities for practical outdoor learning in connection with their environment. It should be noted that the workshops will also be offered to 40 young adults aged 18 to 30.

30th anniversary of the Comité Jeunesse Franco-Yukon (JeFY) & participation in the pan-Canadian conference

Project description:

As part of the 30th anniversary of the Comité Jeunesse Franco-Yukon (JeFY), we would like to organise a big evening show in December 2025 to celebrate the French-speaking youth of the territory. This project aims to bring together more than a hundred people around the talents of young artists, while promoting their leadership and active role in the community. There will also be activities for young people aged 19 to 30 to encourage their participation in Yukon’s French-speaking community. Finally, the proposed project includes a Canada-wide component in which we plan to send a delegation of young people to the Là pour ÇA Congress, an event focused on building relationships and developing skills. We will aim to strengthen young people’s sense of belonging, develop their pride in being Franco-Yukoners, and encourage linguistic security, while focusing on civic participation and intergenerational exchanges.

Cultural Connections

Project description:

This project aims to strengthen the cultural pride and identity of young Francophones aged 12 to 25 in Nova Scotia. Through a series of mainly in-person activities (improvisation workshops, fun evenings in French, intercultural meetings, youth exchanges and training), Cultural Connections will create meaningful opportunities to explore various cultural dimensions (Acadian, artistic, athletic, immigration, Afro-Nova Scotian, etc.). Partnerships with the FJCF for interprovincial connections, cultural visits such as the Black Cultural Centre, and a host of unifying activities in several regions will ensure a broad and inclusive geographic reach. The project encourages the active involvement of young people in the planning, facilitation and evaluation of activities.

Gaspésie, Laurentians and Eastern Townships (Quebec)

Project description:

From 30 June 2025 to 1 March 2026, Project Connect will give young English speakers from three regions of Quebec (Gaspésie, Laurentides and Eastern Townships) the opportunity to each host two in-person community events in French for young English and French speakers. The first event, on a small scale, invites young people to get together and participate in a creative activity while practising their French. The second event, on a larger scale, the Human Library, invites young people to listen to the life stories of other young people in their community and engage in a language exchange. The Connect project aims to bring young people together to increase their confidence in speaking and strengthen their sense of belonging to their community. Reaching 50 young people (aged 14 to 30) per region, the events will facilitate exchanges between English-speaking and French-speaking youth. Y4Y also expects that young people will forge closer ties with local organisations, inspiring them to create future bicultural exchange events for their peers.

REGARD EXTÉRIEUR

Project description:

OUTSIDE LOOK will run from September 2025 to February 2026 and will bring together a youth council of 30 to 40 teenagers aged 14 to 18 from three different areas of Ottawa (Vanier, Orléans and Downtown). These young people will form an artistic advisory community linked to the activities of Théâtre Catapulte. Through theatre outings, drama workshops and open discussions, they will discover Franco-Ottawa theatre and reflect on issues addressed on stage that are relevant to teenagers. Their reflections will feed into the collective creation of a post-performance citizen engagement initiative designed to engage other young people, whether Francophones or Francophiles, as well as the general public. This initiative, conceived and designed by the REGARD EXTÉRIEUR group, will be rolled out during performances of the play Pour Maëlle in February 2026 and will reach approximately 635 audience members aged 14 to 30. The initiative will be rolled out again during the 2026 to 2028 seasons at Théâtre Catapulte.

Tell me about your world, create it differently; art, storytelling and upcycling in French.

Project description:

The project will run from June 2025 to February 2026 and will involve approximately 60 young people aged 12 to 30 attending French-language secondary schools, immersion schools, French framework schools and Lakehead University in Thunder Bay. It will consist of a series of arts workshops in French, offered outside of school hours in a safe, inclusive and creative space. Information and recruitment sessions will be held at school boards and the university in June-July, then in French classes in September-October, followed by a survey and a call for participation. The goal is to strengthen young people’s linguistic security and their sense of belonging to the Francophone community. Through art, they will explore themes such as mental health, addiction and identity, while developing their creativity. Led by an artist and social work technician, the workshops will offer a caring approach, while promoting the use of French in everyday life and intercultural exchanges.

Génération d’encre (Ink Generation)

Project description:

Génération d’encre is a writing café for young Francophone and Francophile adults in Manitoba (aged 18–35). Twice a month, from September to December, a dozen participants gather at Café Postal in Saint Boniface to explore their creativity through workshops led by Anne-Marie Turcotte, a Manitoba-based author inspired by the neo-terroir style. The sessions invite young people to draw on their memories, experiences and roots to create personal stories, working on both content (characters, places, identity) and form (structure, style, images). A literary cabaret halfway through the project will provide an opportunity to share the texts with the public. The project will culminate in the publication of a collective anthology in February, followed by an official launch in June, highlighting these emerging voices. Génération d’encre aims to encourage confidence, break down feelings of impostor syndrome and foster an inclusive and creative space.

Francofièvre 2026: An expanded edition to strengthen the impact of Francophone youth in Saskatchewan

Project description:

Francofièvre is the largest Francophone youth cultural gathering in Saskatchewan, taking place annually in Saskatoon and Regina on an alternating basis. In February 2026, thanks to this additional funding, the event will take the form of two consecutive days of in-person activities. Through this project, the addition of a second day will make it possible to welcome a total of more than 3,000 young people from 50 to 60 Fransaskois and French immersion schools. At the heart of this initiative are young people who experience their Francophone identity by participating in educational, cultural and artistic activities in French. These activities are designed to strengthen young people’s linguistic confidence, sense of belonging and motivation to live fully in French.
